Who is Jeekl?

The Jeekl String Quartet, formed by Evyn Joseph, Leanna Oliver (violins), Jason Guzman (viola), and Joshua Goldstone (cello), aims to create a personal connection with audiences through their performances that highlight chamber works for strings. Founded in 2024 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the quartet has developed a warm, engaging sound and has performed at many local venues.

What started as a friendship has evolved into a cohesive ensemble over the years, marked by vibrant performances of the timeless quartets of Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Haydn. They also perform works by underrepresented composers, demonstrating their dedication to engaging the community with diverse chamber music experiences throughout Las Vegas.

The name “Jeekl” comes from the only salvageable part of a terrible acronym of all of the founding members’ full names, which is “Jogglejjeekl”. The name “Jeekl” encapsulates the group’s playful nature while also incorporating a piece of everyone in it.

Evyn Joseph (violin)

Evyn began taking private violin lessons at the age of three and now has over twenty years of musical experience. Throughout high school and college, she had opportunities to travel and perform internationally in Vienna, Austria, and Milan, Italy.

She has performed for events including the Latin Grammys and Latin Music Awards. Most recently, she performed for Jennifer Lopez’s 2025–2026 Las Vegas residency. In 2025, Evyn graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance, where she served as concertmaster of the UNLV Symphony Orchestra and UNLV Chamber Orchestra and met the musicians who would later form her string quartet. In addition to her nearly two years of quartet work, she regularly performs weddings, private events, and gigs with the David Perrico Pop Strings group. One of the most fulfilling aspects of Evyn’s musical career is running her own private lesson business, where she teaches violin, viola, and piano to students of all ages. Watching her students grow as musicians has greatly deepened her love for music.

All of these experiences, combined with her time playing with the Jeekl Quartet, have led Evyn to believe that music is most meaningful when it is shared with the people you surround yourself with.

Leanna Oliver was born in Iloilo, Philippines, and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She began studying piano and violin at age seven, taking lessons with Michelle Lee and Yunior Lopez. As her passion for orchestral music grew, she became an active member of the Dr. Shirley Linzy Young Artists Orchestra. She served for several years as a concertmaster, section leader, volunteer, and later a mentor. In May 2025, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance for Violin, studying under Dr. Ambroise Aubrun, and pursued the Pre-Medicine track from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Her musical highlights include performing in Milan, Italy, with the UNLV Virtuosi Strings in the Milan Conservatory in 2023. Outside of music, Leanna worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and a Chemistry tutor at UNLV for three years. Since 2021, she has also become involved in healthcare as a clinical volunteer, scribe, medical assistant, and clinical intake administrator. Additionally, Leanna became a research assistant in a BSL-2 biochemistry lab, working with a deadly skin pathogen of amphibians.

Bringing together her experiences in music, science, and research, Leanna aspires to become a physician who fosters connection through collaboration.
